Lucinda Fishing Tournament 2011 - Results

The Baptist Church Fishing Club held it's 12th Annual Lucinda Fishing Tournament over the June long weekend, 10th - 13th June 2011. This year we had tremendous sponsorship support, and we again want to sincerely thank all our sponsors who got behind us and supported this great family event.

Apart from the not-so-great weather conditions, the event was a huge success with reasonably good attendance, and a record amount of fish caught and weighed, as well as released.

There were a total of:

  • 100 legal fish weighed

  • 34 legal fish caught and released

  • 264 undersized fish caught and released

  • 17 mud crabs weighed in

  • 159kg in total of fish weighed

  • 3 club records broken

The children loved the weekend. It was a great opportunity to catch up with friends and explore the awesome Hinchinbrook area.

Fishing the Weedbeds

I went for a trip a few weekends ago to the well known Townsville Weedbeds with my mate from the BCFC. The forecast was 25-30 knots yet we were still keen (or maybe stupid!) so we thought to stay in close. The wind was SE so we were a little protected from the Cape. We found a good spot of clean water in about 12ft then got the burley going hot. We both set our rods with floating pillies and special hook techniques and after about 10 mins it was all on! The doggies were hot, but unfortunately the Remora were even hotter. After about 2 hours of this we then trolled for a while with no luck. We had a great time regardless of being blown about, and were back home well in time for lunch and to share the adventures rewards with the kids.

A fishing trip to the Channel Markers

A three hour fishing trip with my wife Lyn, was very productive with some nice grunter and mackerel to over 60cm. We left the coast guard boat ramp at around 9 oclock and headed out towards the channel markers, finding a large school of bait around 400 metres from the first tripod towards Magnet Island. The sounder showed a hard bottom with a bait ball and other fish around it.

I throw in some berley and we used pilchards for bait. The fish started to hit the pilchards almost straight away and we spent about an hour and a half of great fishing. The grunter and mackerel put up a great fight on the light gear we were using and we were back to the boat ramp by 12 oclock.

Lyn with some of the fish she caught.
